Opening Night!

We open "Cheaper by the Dozen" tonight and the set is COOL! Of course, I'm exhausted, but it's ready and great. That's pretty much filled up my week. I did discover a new food to like. Cheezit makes "Twisters" that are two sticks of snack twisteed together. One is cheezit the other is ranch. Darn good, just don't read the label;)

Traffic Court

I got my traffic ticket reduced to faulty equipment from the slide I took off the road into a road sign in February. My sixth hour was so horrible to the sub that security showed up not once but twice. I am a warrior princess wielding a paint can lid in one hand and brandishing a power drill in the other. I have so many splinters in my hands that I can't use lotion without pain. I will watch Finding Neverland tonight with my roomie.I must change my sentence structure.

Cold

I have nothing to say except my yard looks beautiful with all the flowers and that my classroom is in the low sixties. I am cold.

Monday, Monday...

...can't trust that day. It was a short weekend. It included:
1. Me watering the yard and rejoicing over the tulips and daffodowndillies
2. Late tech. The set is nearly put together.
3. The loss of my couch to the school play. My living room is very empty at the moment.
4. Multiple Meijer/Menard's/Lowe's trips
5. A baptism service at church
6. Being encouraged to write down my dating life for the past few years. I have now ruled out just over 500 men. How long is this gonna take?
7. Spending a fair amount of time in the hammock while thinking I should redesign my backyard.
8. Getting hit on in Wal-Mart. He asked me to help him pick out panties for his wife. He wasn't wearing a ring and was leering instead of looking confused. I hope nobody fell for that.
9. Trying a recipe for zucchini with orange sauce. It was not edible. I wish I liked celery.
10. Going cold turkey on skin care products below the neck so I can be examined today about those mysterious bumps I had over spring break. My skin is very dry.
Overall, I give it a 7. It was an OK weekend, but I hope the next one will be different. ;)

The Perfect Beans

I was asked today why Jelly Bellies are so much better than all other beans. Silly, silly question. The J-Beez are one of the few foods that are actually better in small quantities instead of fill-my-mouth-flavor-delight. I've got to be enthusiastic about a sugary morsel that delivers like that.

Fraywatch

Stolen in full from the Slate feature "Fraywatch":
"Thread of the Week: Initiated here, in BOTF, by locdog, attempting to unravel our favorite theological tautology. IOZ cracks back, 'Absolutism in the face of divinity is juvenile.' And LowDudgeon confesses that 'God's just reaction to free-willed sin I can live with,' but that 'God's just "proaction," if you will, ("God never would have allowed evil unless it was to bring about some greater good") is problematic.' "
Interesting to think about.

Sleepy Saturday

Somehow it's already 1pm on Saturday. I slept in and had a very nice rest. I'm not sure what else I'll do today, but I hope it involves being outside. Last night we got together at the Catcus Juice for birthday celebrations and it was good! I rode the mechanical bull and started to learn how to line dance (there are over 150 different ones. Thankfully, some lady took pity on us and started to help us learn). It's a whole subculture I had no idea existed. It was a very white crowd, but the ages spanned just barely 21 to well over 50. Good times.Somewhere around midnight we moved over to Rookie's and started doing karaoke. The singing overall was pretty horrible, but it was fun. I sang the classic "I Will Survive" with roomie Amy (we danced, people in the bar danced= sucess), and "Livin' on a Prayer" with Courtney (neither of us knew how it started, but we got through it and had a few die-hards dancing near a pool table). Altogether a good night. But I don't know when the last time I went to bed at three was. Sigh. Off to run errands. Hope it's sunny wherever you are!

Steroid Use

I can no longer set a major league baseball record. I have had a steroid injection. I always get horrible large red bumps on my legs when I get eaten by mosquitos, but this time it's really out of control. I went to the dr this morning and she was alarmed. Hence, I got a shot and have Zertec to take tonight (doesn't Zertec seem like it should be the alien warlord of a violent planet?). In any case, it has to be better than the benadryl-induced zombie I usually become. Yeesh, that was a bad sentence.Past that, it should be a quiet afternoon filled with searching for my passport and reading a good book! Thanks for all the birthday wishes!Love ya all!Meg

Happy Birthday to ME!

I have officially completed a full 29 years of living. And, as my grandfather-quoting-my-grandmother would say; It's a priviledge denied to many. Let's see, what else? I got the schnauzer a haircut yesterday and I picked up only half the dog. It's a little creepy to suddenly have him a shorthair. I also got a haircut and it is very short--just barely brushing my shoulders with curl factor. It's cute and will be good for summer, but confuses my quickie hairdos at the moment. Today I'm drinking Creme Brulee coffee (gift hidden in the freezer by my roomie), watching the Today show and applying hydrocortisone creme to my legs (I seem to have been bitten last night while I slept). I'll have ice cream with the Amy this afternoon and dinner with a friend tonight. And of course there's the Cactus Juice & karaoke tomorrow night. Altogether a good birthday celebration. Thank you for the well wishes and I'll let you know how it all goes:)

Beautiful Day

What a day. Absolutely nothing has gone as expected, but that's OK because it has turned out better than expected.
Item 1) The Time Change: I remembered it. I usually don't. Of course, now my car clock is off by a full hour and ten minutes rather than just ten minutes. This annoys those who ride with me, but I've adjusted. It's just hard to convince myself to look it up again in the little tiny manual with the weird numbering.
Item 2) 10:00 Service: Two of my favorite songs (Blessed Be the Name of the Lord, Forever you are Faithful)and a good sermon that reminded me it's not ok to peek over the fence at sin. I feel like I'm doing that in certain areas of my life and have become apathetic about it. Just attitude and expcetation type things, but they could become bigger problems.
Item 3) Route 66: Sorta like Sunday school but not. Good validity of the Bible stuff today. Gave me some things to think about-- Lots of manuscript info. More on that as I process it.
Item 4) Ike the Schnauzer: Picked up the small grey dog this afternoon. I like pretending he is my dog. He listens so well and cuddles so nicely. I may need a dog soon...it's almost summer.
Item 5) Walking in the Woods: Took said small grey dog and Yi (who was freaking out about support raising for Koln) out to Rose Lake and wandered in the peaceful-but-deafeningly-loud mating-frog-filled woods for over an hour. Love the spring.
Item 6) Am starting to feel like I've got a hold on Koln and what it will look like.
Item 7) No getting up before dawn tomorrow. Spring Break rocks.
Item 8) They tear gassed the students in EL last night. The usual post-game rioting. Sigh.
Item 9) I will now go to bed. On a really good matteress. On high thread count, all cotton sheets. It is good to be me.

Grumpy

I am like a droppy flower today. Somewhere between Eeyore and Oscar. Just generally irriatable and morose. I went to the memorial service today. I'm glad I went but it made me sad. How does someone get so sad that life isn't worth living? How can someone believe the only person they belong to is him or herself? What about all the peole in theri lives? Where is God in that? Yet at the same time, I know I miss a lot of chances to help and cheer those I love, much less those I only casually meet. I just want heaven on earth I suppose. Knowing that all of these problems are small potatos compared to things many people are dealing with, it's still just sad.Anyway, this time last year I was headed out to see my baby bro in CA. It was a good time. This year I have all sorts of little things to take care of here. Makes sense. It surprises me that Im not really looking forward to the social engagements of the week though. I'm just too tired at the moment. I had a nice night with Andrea last night. It's good to be with an old friend. What should I do for my birthday? 30 will be the year to do a full event, but perhaps I should do something to commemorate my last birthday in my 20s.I have more thoughts to share, but no energy to type them. bye bye

Happy April Fool's Day

ithacaoroz
Happy April Fool's Day!
I am indeed an April fool. Then again, that applies most months. So let's see--recent events...1) The play: continues. I feel confident it'll all come together, but I've never put a up a platform this large so I'm a little apprehensive as it goes up. I have experienced help though, so all should be well. Yesterday as I was working on of my kids came up to me and apologized for not showing up most of the week. He'd been out cleaning out his dad's house. His Dad committed suicide on Saturday. We had a good talk and I gave him a job that involved a lot of banging. We had some good talk, but one of my co-workers broke in and we never got back to that level. He's in shock about the whole thing and this is going to be a rough spring break. I'll be going to the memorial service tomorrow. Please pray for him and his brother as they adjust to living without their father. Another kid I used to have in class stopped by yesterday as well-- he'd been attacked the night before on our local community college campus. Nail marks all over his neck. We live in a screwed up world. 2) Home: The flowers are coming up in my yard. I now have a variety of yellow crocus and yellow and blue mini-iris. I'm trying to decide if I need to weed the yard or if I should embrace my parents' "naturalized" look.Amy is home this weekend and it's a blessing. We went to the EL Film Festival last night and saw the 1927 Clara Bow movie "IT" with live music by the Blue Dahlia Band. It was pretty darn great. For a silent film it had great lines. My personal favorite: "I'm feeling so low I could get on stilts and walk under a daschund." Great metaphor or do I just like daschunds?3) Spritual self:
