It's interesting to be looking for a church. Conversation between me and a leader from a church that looked pretty theologically sound on their website, but had kinda a weird statement when I asked how faith played out in their outreach program. That statement prompted this question:
Me: So what do you think is the purpose of the modern church?
Woman: To give people a place where they feel good about their relationship with God.
Me: Oh.
Oye. Well, maybe we just need to plug in somewhere and be the change, but I'm nervous about signing on with thiings as they are.

Tired of Transition
Another Tuesday. It's crazy hot and slightly looney humid again. We hit a new high temp for the day yeasterday. If today reaches 92 we'll have set a new record for # of hellishly hot days in one year. Don't ask me to define excatly what "hellishly hot" is. The fact that I'm using the term is evidence enough to show I haven't really been paying attention.
We went to a traditional Latin mass at the Covington Basilica on Sunday. We're pretty burnt out on the church search. I shouldn't be this hard to find a place to plug in. A service-oriented church with at least a minimal young adult/adult presence and some sort of youth program? Preferably a 10:30 or later start? I'd like to pretend we're ready to be out the door by 9:30, but actually, not so much. It hurt my heart to hear Dave say he wasn't jazzed about any of the options and I should just pick this week.
Then came the idea of the basilica. That lit him up. We've wanted to go for a while. With David's catholic upbringing he is drawn to the formality of the service. I just thought it was cool. I usually think of Jesus in jeans and a flannel--kinda the early '90s grunge, sit down on a log in the woods and hash things out type. I forget that he's a king with all the majesty and reverent honor attached. I definately got that in the service on Sunday. Kinda breathtaking.
Pair that will a stop off at the Greenup (dang! That's good.) and sittign out in the Hofbrau House Biergarten. Good afternoon. We even got out to the Mt. Airy Forest and played tall-hobbits-with-dog just before sundown. As the Sasquatch noted, Mt. Airy is beautiful in the fall, even if it's a drought season.

It's cold here today. Mid-50s. What's up with needing A/C last week and thinking about turning on the heat this one?
Good weekend. We saw Pirates of the C with people on Friday. I kinda felt like I should ask what exactly that was. Visually stunning but the storyline was only loosely linked. So I think perhaps I am glad we saw it at the cheap theatre for $3.50.
King's Island was grand. It was a P&G thing so we came home with a lot of full size samples and rode rides until we hurt. Turns out the 'ole equilibrium isn't quite what it used to be. Highlight of the day: riding the Son of the Beast three times in a row with no wait and only one other couple with us. Or the superman flying tower thingy. So worth it.
Lowlight: the third ride on the SOB, we rode in the middle of the train rather than the front car. David described it as "a fun ride in which a man beat me violently in the middle back with a large stick" I just thought it felt like someone was shoving down on my head trying to compress my spine. Turns out there really is an advantage to the front seat.
Had a great walk in Mt. Airy with the pooch on Saturday. There's an uber-cool treehouse out there and several small suspension bridges, but past that, it's quite wild. We even got semi-lost and found a deer skull. Happily, we did not find a body like the runners that were out there a few weeks ago.
Speaking of crime, the United Dairy Farmers store near our house was robbed this morning around 8am. Kinda freaks me out when combined with the muggings in Clifton (one neighborhood over) and the car jacking in June. Glad we have large barky dog for me to wander the neighborhood with.
Prayer would also be appreciated for a job. Got one in the pipeline I'd like. They need to decide whether I'm qualified today and, if so, figure out interview stuff. I do want a job now-now.
I miss you people. It's hard to make friends in a new place. I love my hubby, and he's the best friend, but he's not the same deal as a bunch of like-minded/hearted folks to hang with.
I did meet someone I might perhaps be able to befriend in the wedding center at Macy's on Friday. Perhaps I'll call her for coffee this week.
Ok, back to work. Time to paint the trim in the bedroom!

I saw a woman with triplets in the post office yesterday. May I be blessed, but not that blessed.
This was especially interesting as I hadd juat seen a PBS show about organ stress from foreign objects. Lots of pictures of people's bodies with stuff in them. Stuff included: tumor, washcloth, engorged appendix, single baby, twins, triplets, fat, cysts, one of those twins that gets absorbed into the other and just kinda hangs out internally until someone discovers it as well as violent trauma (a pole, a 4x4, a balloon- partially inflated, I missed how that got in there). And then after-removal shots. I'm a fan of seeing people sitting around without their skin on, but this was a bit wild. All sorts of goofy disfigurements. Most had reshaped to kind what they were like before after six months. Some were still wacky after TWO YEARS! Ew.
We're here. I have renters in Lansing. Temping is ok. I need a job. I like Cincinnati. Got to see Em & John on Saturday, yay!
We're going to a German beer tasting art event at the Taft on Thursday night. Cook out with the neighbors on Saturday. Kings Island on Sunday. That's mostly me on the surfacy stuff.
