Romeo & Juliet

Blue Like Jazz is a good book. I laughed myself into a snorting fit over the Romeo & Juliet bit. I always think the same thing at the end when everyone else is mushy—Romeo & Juliet a perfect love story? They’re dead!

Do you have any idea how scandalous that is in my profession?

Love story?? Ha! Shakesperean TRADGEY people...go read Much Ado About Nothing.

My english teacher got around that by asking us if we thought it was a story about love or lust. She just created the debate and stayed out of it. Probably a good idea.

I remember having an argument with my 9th grade English teacher about whether or not fate was responsible for what happened to Romeo and Juliet...she said yes, I said no, and she marked my paper down because of it.

The literary bit I like from "Blue Like Jazz" is the section on "Pride and Prejudice" being the key to a woman's heart, but that this said key is hopelessly boring. I *like* Austen, and I still chuckled.
